Upper Dublin Community Day Slated For Sept. 13 - Ambler Gazette - Montgomery News

The biennial Upper Dublin Community Day is slated for Sept. 13 from 2 to 6 p.m. The free, family-friendly fun event will feature more than 100 booths and activities manned by nonprofits, community groups and businesses on the Midway, up and down Loch Alsh Avenue between the high school and township building. In 2012 the event was a major celebration with fireworks that also marked the completion of the new high school, said longtime township resident Greg Diehl, co-chair of the UD Community Day Committee with his wife, Susan. This year it will be a block party format, he said. Radio Disney AM 640, part of the No. 1 radio network for kids, tweens and families, will be playing music and hosting activities in front of its huge mobile van, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Diehl said. Other entertainment and music will be provided by clowns, magicians, the Give & Take Jugglers, a number of UDHS groups including the Marching Cardinals, the VOX a capella singers and guitar students, the Institute for Dance Artistry, the UD Chinese Association, and Tim DeMoss the DJ. A hot car display, karate and gymnastics demonstrations and athletic activities will be offered and local police, firefighters, ambulance and county tactical units will have their vehicles on display. Among the activities for children will be a giant inflatable http://medtravel9.yuku.com moon bounce, a rock wall to climb, face painting, a mechanical bull and a dunk tank. There will also be a variety of games and craft activities and people will be able to take self-guided tours of the high school from 3 to 5 p.m. For the swimmers in the crowd, there will be a Splash and Dash competition from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the UDHS pool. Swimmers will compete to see how many laps (25 yards) they can swim in10 minutes followed by shuttle laps outside, adjacent to the natatorium for 10 minutes. The Fireside restaurant, Randazzos Pizza, Philly Pretzel in Horsham and Georges Shop N Bag will be contributing food that will be sold at old-fashioned prices. All activities and entertainment are free. There are still slots available for Antiques on the Air, which will take place in the township Community Room (starting at 1 p.m.) where appraisers will be available.
